15 The first railway line

The extended railway tracks are testament to the fledgling train station’s enormous economic importance for the city. It was, however, relocated in 1876 after only nineteen years. The line was converted into Rathausstraße and Promenadestraße, today’s Prinzregentenstraße. Sufficient space was left here to plant avenue trees. An improvement society was founded for this purpose in 1872 with the intention of promoting tourism, and it also installed avenues on further main roads: Wittelsbacherstraße, Ebersberger Straße, Haustätter Straße (today’s Heilig-Geist-Straße), Innstraße and Bahnhofstraße were all “greened-up”. The turf wagons in the foreground delivered fuel for salt works and steam engines.

Address, location: Rathausstraße 30
